...perfectly capable, intelligent people are succumbing to pampering and enabling features of society that allow them to drift through life ill prepared for any hardship that may befall them. Finally, when something terrible does happen, they are clueless as to how to approach it. Had they been allowed to make mistakes, perhaps they would have learned something along the way.

Going through hardships makes you more capable of getting through the next problem life throws at you. If you are protected to the point of never having to deal with hardships, you better hope that protection holds up.

...they have the crosswalk, the walk signals, a voice counting down how long they have to cross, and if thats not bad enough, a sign reading, Please wait for walk signal on both sides of the street. I hate to break it to you, folks, but life is way harder than crossing the street. If you need an additional sign and countdown, you should not procreate. On a side note, it is odd how the city government has money to protect morons with unnecessary signs that warn them to follow the already existing signs, but driving down Alder is like driving on a cobblestone street in Guatemala.

I wonder if the countdown voice speaks in other languages besides English.

Where New Jersey Leads

Illinois may be #1 but New Jersey's in the top 3! I asked former Gov. Jim Thompson what he thought about Sabato's Top Three. "Illinois can't hold a candle to New Jersey and Louisiana," he said indignantly. "We're poor country cousins compared to those states."

The official list puts us at #11 but I'm sure we're moving up.

Media Bias on Global Warming

Lots of global warming issues in the news today. This one shows the media bias in the issue. It seems February was particularly cold this year in much of the US and Canada but the only thing mentioned in the news is how warm it was in Korea this winter....

PETA and Global Warming

PETA wants everyone to stop eating meat. They seem to think animals should have more rights than people.

Here's their latest attempt to shut down the meat markets. Talk about jumping on the bandwagon.

Ok, suppose PETA got their way and no one ever ate meat again. Just what do they think would happen to all those cows, pigs, and chickens that no one was allowed to eat? Do they think all of the people that raise these animals for the food industry would continue to provide food, shelter and care to these animals if they were no longer a source of income? I don't think so.

New Jersey Favors Giulliani Over Clinton

I was listening to WDHA this morning on the way to work. After reading a news item about a Quinnipiac poll, the DJs decided to run their own phone poll. The Quinnipiac poll stated that a poll of New Jersey residents showed there was more support for Rudy Giulliani than for Hillary Clinton. The DJs asked people to call in and express their preferences. After a short while, they stated that results were running greatly in favor of Giulliani.

I'm not surprised. I've seen many other polls referenced through blogs that indicate Hillary hasn't got the support you might expect. Personally, I'd be very afraid if she got elected. I think the last Clinton presidency was a disaster on several fronts. Just think what Clinton II would be like if she's learned anything from the mistakes of Clinton I.

Payback? Is that why the Democrats think they were elected? I thought they were being sent to Washington to govern? I hope this isn't what the next two years will be like. Mike at Cold Fury says "Good thing there wont be a war on to distract us from the truly important stuff."

I find myself agreeing with Jim. Those were almost my exact thoughts. We are witnessing the beginning of the end of a once great nation. If the Democrats do half the things they threatened to upon taking control of congress - force a pullout of Iraq and Afghanistan, endless hearings, impeachment proceedings - this country may not recover from the consequences in my lifetime. I fear the Iraq war was lost last night and it wasn't on the battlefield.

Pray for the leadership of this country. Pray for the troops.

WINS News Radio 1010 out of New York is running a poll on their website. If former Mayor Rudy Giuliani and Sen. Hillary Clinton were to run for president, who would you vote for? Currently, Giuliani is leading 65%-35% but I have no idea how many votes have been cast.

Of course, by averaging polls, what you're doing is increasing the sample size so your results should be a lot more accurate. If you want truly accurate results, have an election.

What Do They Think Would Happen If We Bailed?

The left keeps saying that our presence in Iraq is causing an increase in terrorist activity. Some hand-picked information strategically leaked from the National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) appears to give this theory some backing.

Do they really think that if we bailed out and withdrew that the terrorists would give up terrorism? The contrary would more likely be true. How much more likely would these people be to enlist into a terrorist organization if they thought they could win? Wouldn't that be the signal we would be sending if we pulled our troops out on a timetable instead of on milestones?

Do we remain in Iraq until we achieve a clear victory (vote for the Republican, in most cases) or do we set a timetable for withdrawal (vote for the Democrat)?

The NIE will help you to make that choice, and even die-hard liberal Tim Noah at Slate gets the point:
On the plus side for President Bush, it says that if United States military forces withdrew anytime soon from Iraq, then al Qaida would use that perceived victory to recruit new members. That's bad news for any congressional Democrats who advocate removing troops in the near term.

Oh, and one other thing...

So let me add to Glenn's suggestion that we "should fire the leakers on general principles."

I think we should go beyond firing the leakers. I thing whoever is doing this - not only the NIE document but previous leaks as well - is acting against the best interests of the United States and undermining our war efforts. I believe this could be defined as aiding and abetting the enemy - in other words "treason". It's hard enough fighting the enemy we are faced off against without people in our own intelligence offices working against us. This needs to change and soon. Charges of treason ought to be raised against the leakers and they ought to be prosecuted with vigor. There has to be a visible and harsh consequence for those who would put the country in grave danger.
